SPECIAL NOTE Eleni Vernadaki studied ceramics at Hammersmith College of Art and Building in London. Upon her return to Greece in 1959 she opened a workshop in Athens and in 1961 she became part of Art Group A, which aimed to promote art to the wider public. From 1968 to 2015 she ran "Athens Design Center - ADC", which she founded with her husband. ADC became a focal point of creativity, displaying an inspired union of the handmade ceramic art object and modern life. Vernadaki was also one of the founding members of the Modern Art Society (SYST) and she served as general secretary. She is credited with the modern revival of the art form in Greece and for pioneering contemporary trends.
