Ettore Sottsass was a highly influential and prominent figure, making significant contributions as both an architect and designer. In 1981, he founded the Memphis group, a collective that wrought a profound change in the world of Italian and global design. Over the course of his career, he earned numerous prestigious international awards, including the Golden Compass Award in 1959.
