SPECIAL NOTE
Shiro Kuramata was a Japanese designer born in Tokyo.He graduated from Tokyo Polytechnic High School in 1953. He subsequently was later trained as a cabinet maker at the Kuwasawa Institute of Design in Tokyo in 1954, before founding his own studio in 1965. Kuramata's work often blurred the lines between art and design, while using industrial materials like acrylic, glass, and steel mesh.His partnership with fashion designer Issey Miyake, beginning in 1976, led to interior projects of retail spaces and introduced his work to a global audience. Kuramata was also a key contributor to Ettore Sottsass's Memphis Group. His work is housed in major museums worldwide.
