SPECIAL NOTE Ettore Sottsass was a highly influential and prominent figure, making significant contributions as both an architect and designer. He actively participated in various innovative movements that emerged in the 1970's and 1980's. In 1981, he founded the Memphis group, a collective that wrought a profound change in the world of Italian and global design. Over the course of his career, he earned numerous prestigious international awards, including the Golden Compass Award in 1959.
