SPECIAL NOTE On the advice of Allen Ginsberg, Sottsass consulted the works of Ajit Mookerjee, who was specialist in sacred texts. He was inspired by these writings and decided to transform Mokerjee's compositions of geometric signs into three-dimensional ceramics. 'I continued to move toward the idea of designing objects as catalysts for perception'.
This piece was considered a visual meditation aid, in the same way that the mantra is a vocal aid.
Entitled "Yantra di Terracotta", these objects borrow from the graphic codes and meanings of traditional yantras.
Particularly, a square, which symbolises the earth-city with its four gates, forms the section base and the upper shape reveals Mount Meru, which continues to expand after being created by the god Indra.
