SPECIAL NOTE
The Kubirolo line, launched in the Poltronova Collezione Internationale 1967-1968 catalogue, targeted a wider, younger clientele in search of an economical, modular and highly customisable storage system. In this so-called 'commercial' line, Sottsass did not sacrifice his unique vocabulary of shapes, but instead adapted it expertly. Kubirolo is a combination of simple, geometric shapes, whose surfaces are punctuated by coloured elements (the handles). The metaphysical dimension of the object is still very much present. By combining the units, it is possible to recreate an accessible version of the tower pieces designed by Sottsass several years earlier. Kubirolo was a commercial success for Poltronova.
